Busuu has millions of users — but a heuristic evaluation revealed friction points that were quietly pushing people away. The onboarding dropped users directly into a lesson with no way out. The tab bar lacked labels, making navigation confusing. Progress felt invisible. Videos were too small for mobile screens. No incentives to keep going. My redesign tackled all of this: a clearer tab bar with named sections and intuitive icons, a more visible progress bar, a quick-access dictionary, and an onboarding flow that actually welcomes users before throwing them into content. The result? Testers found it modern, easy to navigate, and intuitive — completing most tasks successfully on the first try. One small but meaningful win: switching the active tab indicator from a moving line to filled icons + bold labels made location instantly obvious.
